Holiday Thoughts
Here in UK as the nights draw in, some people find this time of the year a good one for planning a holiday, so here are some options, with related links.
A good place to start is www.discoverspain.com. Visiting Spain is not only about sun, great cuisine, and a warm welcome, but also its rich monumental heritage and natural environment.
If you enjoy places of historic interest, an interesting one I found is Torre de Bujaco, Muralla de Avila. This is a castle, which overlooks the city of Avila.

The old castle and the church located outside are patrimoney of the Humanity. The construction of the castle, by Raimundo from Burgandy, dates from the end of the X1 Century with King Alfonso V1 of Castile, who ordered him to repopulate, and to fortify the cities of Segovia
Further north, there is also La Sagrada Família (Catalan, ‘The Holy Family’) This is a is a massive Roman Catholic Basilica under construction in Barcelona.
Construction began as far back as 1882, and for 40 years, Antoni Gaudi worked on it, devoting the last 15 years of his life entirely to this endeavour. With regard to the extremely long construction period, Gaudí is said to have joked, “My client is not in a hurry.” In the years following his his death in 1926 parts of the unfinished building and Gaudí’s models and workshop were destroyed during the war by Catalan anarchists. The design, as now being constructed, is based both on reconstructed versions of the lost plans and on modern adaptations.
From Sagrada Famila, if you take metro to Vallcarca, we find Parc Guell. ![]()
In here is an old Cathederal in the Gothic quarter, well worth a visit from what I understand from those who have visited. The Cathederal has it’s own Geese.
Now onto the Spanish capital, Madrid. A great tourist attraction is Prado museum and botanical gardens. This contains one of the worlds most important art collections, including works by Artists Goya, Rubens and Murillo. Here is a statue between the Prado museum and Botanical Gardens.
