Google page rank demotions
It’s been a talking point in blogging communities recently about Googles page Rank demotions of sites who actively use pay per posts. Most opportunities on Pay Per Post, or the better paying ones, call for a page rank, as well as other factors like Technorati, Alexa Rankings ect. But after the savage Google cuts, many now have PR of 1 or less, so find themselves frozen out of ppp.
It’s a concern of course, for ppp, more than bloggers, because it means less advertising posts available. There are on going talks with advertisers, hoping to limit the usage of Pr in posting elildgibility. Now there is RR (Real Rank) a system devised by ppp as a way of ranking blogs who use their service.
It’s obvious that Google consider ppp a rival to their own Adsense. Is it a co-incidence that, after ppp’s rise to prominence, many people are expressing doubts about Adsense, when all we seemed to hear for months and months was how people make small fortunes with Adsense? In this respect, might not it be an own goal Google are scoring by the page rank demotions, added to their arbitory dealings with Adsense, deleting a number of accounts for minor infringements?
Both ppp and Adsense can devalue websites. There has to be limits on both methods if a blogger is to have credibility with readership. If one makes post after post nothing but commercials, the motives of the blogger will be all to transparant. It is the equivelent on commercial TV putting on nothing but adverts. Same token, Adsense splattered all across the screen is an irritant to many readers. Whatever the choice of the poster, a balance has to be considered.
The point is, will the PR limiting by Google lead to a decrease in ppp activities, or will posters and advertisers find a way around it, go on thriving? If the latter, Google may well find that it’s Adsense which comes out the loser.

Hi Mark,
I’ve seen this topic talked about so much i’ve always wondered what the fuss is about.
My own theory is that if you have decent content which people want to read, page rank has no bearing, or not much, on your visitors and your ability to keep them coming back.
The more good content you produce will inevitably get you listed in many major search engines which will undoubtedly bring in more visitors.
As far as adsense go, to me they are talked about, or have been talked about like their the god of search engines, this is completely untrue of course. There are thousands of search engines out there and you can get listed with most if not all of them.
I have to admit when I search for something, I tend to ‘google’ it, because we’ve almost been brainwashed into thinking it’s the only engine out there, that’s advertisment for you though, i’ve heard almost on a weekly basis on a tv programme or series or movie that someone googled this or that.
Google actually started going down in popularity since they began deleting accounts for various ‘breaking of their terms’ not giving the person a reason so they could rectify the problem if there was one, they automatically treated everyone who broke their terms as cheaters.
Following that they then started dropping their ad prices which affected affiliates payouts so affiliates started looking elsewhere, like bidvertiser or yahoo publisher.
Now we have the pagerank issue of people losing their rank overnight to zero, creating even more people losing faith in google.
Yes they are not doing themselves any favours but then they probably aren’t too concerned since they have made their fortune and then some, which could lead to their downfall.
Many things come and go on the internet and I think google might have just had their day, new things are coming in quickly as you mention the ppp area and i’m sure that’s only the beginning.
Google might be a giant on the inernet but they started small, and there are thousands more starting small every day and i’m sure google will someday wish they hadn’t trodden on some of these small guys once they themselves become giants.
I’ve rambled long enough, sorry, you might have guessed i’m not a big fan of google.
Merry Christmas:)

Hi Tony,
Of course, to pay per posters PR is only a major issue because without one it limits your opportunities, therefore, money! The old problem of money again! But Real Rank will emerge as the dominant factor in the near future, I am confident of that. Google and their algorhythms will be less of a factor.
As you say, there ARE other search engines. Myself, I’ve always used Yahoo! I like the Yahoo highlight keyword search facility you get from the Yahoo toolbar, still by far my favourite toolbar
Like most things, I think you need to get in early to truly benifit from money making projects. By the time it gets to the point where you read articles and books about how someone wants to share their success story with us on stuff like Adsense, it’s already too late to get in. By this time, more people are fed up with the ugly looking ads. Though it’s something recently I added to my other blog just to try for myself. I’m quite happy with the way it integrates with my site, if it had not blended, I would not have put it there.
I think you’re right, ppp still has a long way to go. But a balance needs to be maintained. I was looking at one yesterday called Blogitive, where you create a directory inside your existing blog, for ppp.
As to Google, increased competition will not be a bad thing at all for users of the internet…
Thanks for your comment, Tony
I think your right about most things and getting in early or your wasting your time. With adsense ads people will always make money with them although as we’ve seen compared to say five years ago, you have to get 10 times the hits to get the same amount of money.
You may want to consider yahoo publisher ads, I have those on my blog, I don’t get the kind of clicks i’m looking for but that will come eventually, it’s not that important right now.
What is important is that yahoo publisher ads are exactly the same as googles, you can customize them by colour, dimensions etc…but they pay much more per click than adsense ever will.
The biggest problem at the moment is getting the right ads for the content, most ads showing on my blog are to do with global news which leads me to believe it’s reading from my title and header, that could be a benefit or a hindrance, not sure yet.
Any pay per post or pay per review is really going to do well in the future, it’s very popular with many bloggers and webmasters already, and as you know, what’s popular really takes off.
I think people are tired of advertising products and ebooks and tons of promoting but getting nowhere, i’m consistently seeing many good blogs with great original content and those are the ones which will eventually do well.
People are coming to realise making money online is not a get rich quick thing, it takes time and hard work, if you stick with it you’ll reap the benefits, more importantly you have to enjoy what your doing or you’ll just burn out and leave it in the end.
I’ll be keeping my eye’s and ear’s open over the coming months regarding the PPP area, I think it’s going to get huge.
Tony:)
Hi there Mark..
We do not need to focus now on having PR in Google because like me, i have plans to be part of IZEA or PPP..
And for sure if Google see that many are not using their program anymore they will change again their rules to accommodate bloggers who are into monetizing their website by paid reviews.
I do not want to touch sensitive issues about Google as i am not really that familiar with them and i do not want to get too technical i might not get out of it.
By the way, thank you for always visiting my blog..
Hi Jade, it’s a concern though for ppp users outside USA that opportunities will be too scant. Building up good content is the main thing in any website.
Best of luck with whoever you choose to use for paid posting. You do make the posts interesting. Thanks for stopping by.
